"So whosoever disbelieves, on him will be his disbelief." (Quran 35:39)

Islam is not affected when a person leaves it. Allah does not need us nor does the religion. The Muslim ummah continues to grow, despite those who leave and think they have found a better way.

Asking Muslims to be inclusive of those who leave the faith is absurd, it is the biggest brotherhood in the world. What unites us as a community is our faith - so when a person decides to leave, then we won't welcome his disbelief and he will leave this brotherhood of over 1 billion people.

There is no compulsion in the religion and especially here in the west, we have to accept that there are those who have had bad experiences with their families / masajid / imams etc and this leads them out of the faith. Likewise, with a lack of emphasis on learning the correct creed, some 'Muslims' are bound to leave Islam when they are faced with theories such as Evolution, Big Bang etc.

People apostated from the earliest generations. It is a fact of life. What we have today however, is a glorification of these apostates in the media who give them platforms and make them seem like a group of intellectually 'awaked' people.

How should we, as a community of BELIEVERS, deal with them? Ignore them. Their disbelief is upon their own necks. But at the same time, we should struggle to protect the upcoming generations from this fitna by teaching them the correct creed, teaching them the doubts that will likely come to them and reminding them to make duaa and seek salvation and steadfastness in the religion.

We don't need to apologise, nor do we need to conform to what the media thinks is correct. If someone wants to leave the faith that is up to him. Nobody can force him into believing. Likewise, we do not go overboard - we can still invite them back to the faith. Stick with them. Be close to them. But if they call to their disbelief then we abandon them and refute their call to disbelief.

Ultimately, remember, Allah misguides whom He wills and guides whomever He wills.

"Have you seen him who takes his own desires as his god, and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?" (Quran 45:23)
